CROWSON Park Riding for the Disabled are appealing for volunteers to attend an open day on February 20.
The facility, located at 129 Crowson Lane, Greenbank, relies on volunteers to offer traditional horse riding training to physically and intellectually disabled people.
Crowson Park coach Linda Gaffaney said people interested in volunteering would be offered a tour of the park and learn how to carry out tasks.
Jobs include grooming horses, cleaning paddocks, and supporting riders.
Ms Gaffaney said Crowson Park horse riders were always excited to get on a horse.
“We had a new rider last year, Hayden Woolard, who was non verbal and didn’t follow directions,” she said.
“By the second week we had him steering and verbalising for the horse to go on.
“A lot of our riders can start riding without volunteers holding on to them within a couple of weeks or months.”
There will be opportunities for riders to compete in state and national titles later this year.
Ms Gaffaney said the club was also searching for a new quarter horse or stock horse between 14.2 and 15.2 hands high, about 60 inches tall.
Crowson Park Riding for the Disabled will offer lessons to disabled riders on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 2.30pm.
