Lynne from Jimboomba was feeling completely without hope and could see no purpose in living, even for her pre-teen children.
She had made plans to drive off a cliff with them in the car. Then she read about the Depression and Anxiety Recovery Program (DARP), which ran sessions in Greenbank and had a 90 percent success rate.
Lynne decided to attend and when she arrived at the door, said to one of the staff; “If this program doesn’t help me, I’m going to ‘off’ myself”.
Now she’s living on top of the world, eager to start each new day.
Depression is a world-wide problem and is very prevalent in Australia:
- 1 in 3 people will experience prolonged grief and anxiety
- 1 in 10 will have a serious encounter with depression
- 1 in 6 people visiting a GP are suffering depression or anxiety
DARP has been running in Greenbank for the past eight years and there has been remarkable success.
Severity of depression and anxiety can be ‘measured’ and everyone who attends DARP completes a questionnaire at the beginning and again at the end of the eight week program.
And the results have been amazing. People suffering major depression have become depression-free.
Lynne and many others are living proof.
What is different about DARP? How does it work when so many other things fail? Treating the symptoms does not help depression and anxiety. DARP actually looks at the causes.
Further more, DARP is completely natural and there are many things you can do at home that improve depression and anxiety.
Just thinking positive thoughts does not work alone. Brain techniques can improve symptoms.
There are some simple physical exercises that make a big difference too. Even what you eat can affect the brain’s ability to recover and to feel normal again.
The next Greenbank DARP program will begin with an information night on Monday, February 18 at 6.45pm at the Park Ridge Community Centre, followed by Monday night meetings for eight weeks.
