REGENTS Park resident Amy Geissler found a new best friend when she returned from her Schoolies celebrations last year.
Ms Geissler was saddened by the loss of her beloved pet to cancer late last year before her father Stephan Geissler surprised her with a new pet when she returned home.
The clumsy Bull mastiff Bentley quickly fell in love with the Geissler family when he was adopted from the Logan Animal Management Centre.
Mr Geissler said Bentley’s playful antics entertained the family.
“He is a very friendly and laid back dog. Absolutely loves people,” he said.
Since adoption, Bentley has benefited from daily walks and returned to a healthier weight.
Ms Geissler said Bentley was already fitting in as a member of the family.
“He’s given us a purpose. He’s our best friend,” she said.
Bentley found his new home through Logan Council’s Logan Animal Management Centre’s pet adoption program.
Lovable Lottie
A dog-loving Jimboomba family have become earlier risers after adopting an American staffy puppy.
The seven-month old dog Lottie regularly wakes the Geppert-Squires family as early as 5am to go for a morning walk.
Lottie gets plenty of exercise between obedience classes and walks twice a day.
Owner Kirsty Geppert-Squires said the family were nervous about owning a puppy again after their 13-year-old Bull Arab cross staffy Patch died last year.
But Lottie quickly put their fears to rest.
Ms Geppert-Squires said Lottie had already developed a close relationship with her 15-year-old son.
“(Lottie) wanted to get to him so badly. She was excited, but not frantic,” she said.
She said the Logan Animal Management Centre staff made choosing the right pet easy.
“The staff at the animal management centre are amazing and have made the adoption process so easy for us," she said.
The Logan Animal Management Centre is located at 213 Queens Road, Kingston and is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
The centre is home to a number of abandoned dogs and cats in need of a loving home.
