THE Wolters family are set to pay a visit to Greenbank on Sunday morning after spending the past year cycling around Australia to raise funds in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of Queensland.
Diana, Jozef, Jack and Chloe Wolters will arrive at the recently completed $5.1 million Everleigh parkland at 11am on January 20 as part of their 18,000 kilometre journey to raise extra funds for the cause.
Logan councillor Trevina Schwarz, Everleigh and Enriching Communities Greenbank will host kids entertainment and a coffee cart.
Visitors will be asked for a gold coin donation which will go towards the Bundaberg family’s $50,000 fundraising target.
Greenbank businesses will host a BBQ and donate prizes for a raffle.
The Wolters have made significant headway on the journey – with over 16,000 kilometres ridden and $43,000 raised through their ‘One Year on our Bike’ Everyday Hero page.
Their cause was inspired by Jozef’s father who suffered MND and died in 2017
Family friend and fundraiser organiser Kylie Doessel said the event would be a great way to raise funds for an important cause.
“It’s incredible to see one family literally go the distance for such an important cause,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to have both Council and Everleigh developer Mirvac on board with the event and we hope the Wolters family can inspire others to see that anything is possible if you have a goal in mind.”
Mirvac Queensland Residential general manager Warwick Bible said the Everleigh team was honoured to host the Wolters family.
"This is the first opportunity for locals to enjoy an event at Everleigh's new parklands, which features 1.5 hectares of recreation space and an 8,000sqm linear park with pedestrian and cycling pathways," he said.
