FEDERAL LNP member for Wright, Scott Buchholz is calling on sport and physical activity providers in the region to apply for funding for a national $28.9million program aimed at encouraging Australians to get more active.
Mr Buchholz urged all sporting groups in the region to create or enhance programs that would help attract people across a wide range of age, ability and location to participate in physical activity and sport.
“We know just how important sport and physical activity is to helping both children and adults lead a happy, healthy life,” Mr Buchholz said.
“Our goal is to get more locals more active more often.
“I encourage eligible organisations to consider impactful ways to innovate with new programs, or enhance existing physical activity initiatives that will improve the lives of all Aussies across our community.”
Mr Buchholz said the program would be managed by Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s leading agency for sport and physical activity.
He said the program offered grants of between $25,000 and $250,000 to fund local sport and physical activity organisations and were available for organisations that had been operating on a not-for-profit status for more than 12 months.
A second stream of grants for groups affiliated with national sporting organisations offered between $100,000 and $1 million to fund the delivery of large scale projects that complement the Move It Aus campaign.
Projects must be implemented and completed by June 30, 2020.
Applications opened on Monday January 7 and close on February 18 with more information on the Move It Aus participation grants at sportaus.gov.au/participationgrants
