A SOCIAL media campaign circulated in the Cedar Grove community led to police charging two people with alleged with burglary and car theft offences.
Jimboomba police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said car keys and money were reported stolen from a Deltoro Court home on Sunday, November 11.
The keys were allegedly used to steal a Mitsubishi Triton four wheel drive vehicle.
Senior Sergeant Waugh said residents circulated descriptions of the missing car on social media the following day, urging residents to keep watch for suspicious activity.
“People living on the street who were aware the car was stolen saw the car and (people) acting suspiciously, so they contacted police,” he said.
Police charged a 33-year-old Yarrabilba man with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering premises, burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.
The man was on bail for more than 50 alleged property offences.
He was remanded in custody due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, November 15.
Police also charged a 30-year-old Yarrabilba woman with obstructing police, possession of suspected stolen property and unlicensed driving.
She is due to appear at Beaudesert Magistrates Court on November 27.
Senior Sergeant Waugh said police would not have made any progress without help from the community.
“It was really good work by the community who rang up and told us what they were seeing...they did a sensational job,” he said.
