LOGAN stars of the future have been recognised at the 14th Annual Logan City Council Trainee and Apprentice Awards.
The awards, held at Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre, recognised the efforts of the 2018 program’s 67 trainees, apprentices and their supervisors.
Categories included School-based Trainee of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Trainee Supervisor of the Year, Branch of the Year and the 2018 Trainee of the Year.
City treasurer Cr Trevina Schwarz said the program had grown with 2018 participant numbers double that of previous years.
“It was great to present awards on the night to our hard-working trainees as I’m incredibly proud of our graduates and the program,” Cr Schwarz said.
“It is a great investment in Logan’s youth and our economy.
“The results speak for themselves. Graduates come out work-ready and take up real employment opportunities locally, either with council or in the private sector.
“It’s rewarding for everyone at the council to help our youth into jobs which will set them up for a bright future.”
The council will host and welcome 58 new trainees and apprentices in 2019, bringing the total to 87.
“I encourage anyone interested in a traineeship or apprenticeship to apply now for next year’s intake,” Cr Schwarz said.
“It’s more than just a nationally-recognised qualification – there’s a whole lot more value-added opportunities included.
“There’s a wide range of traineeships available, so check out the details on our website and put your name forward for one of these incredible opportunities.”
Logan council has employed 38 trainees since 2015, with many more also employed as temporary or agency staff, covering short-term absences.
Traineeships on offer in 2019 include business, events, hospitality, IT, library and information services, marketing, sport and recreation and pest management.
An apprenticeship in boiler making/sheet metal fabrication is also on offer.
