LOGAN City Council’s planning and economic development chair Russell Lutton has admitted he failed to declare a conflict of interest when he voted on a $750 million development project linked to a political donor.
The project was The Lakes, a 1500 unit resort on the banks of the Logan River at Carbrook, by the Chinese-Australian developer Liansheng Yue’s Australian SN International Investment Group.
A complaint was made and referred to the state’s disciplinary body, the Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal for investigation. It ordered Cr Lutton make the admission of error.
The conflict of interest related to a $1600 donation made by the developer’s consultants Gassman Development Perspectives to Cr Lutton during his 2016 election campaign. In May, Cr Lutton amended his electoral register to reflect the donation.
Cr Lutton told today’s meeting he failed to declare a conflict of interest at a Planning and Development committee meeting on February 14, 2017.
