LOGAN City has offered all administrative workers a 2.5 per cent increase with the agreement backdated to July 1.
The offer eliminates the two-tier offer which the union claimed discriminated against its poorest workers – women in libraries and administrative roles.
It includes provision for severe weather and domestic violence, enhanced parental leave provisions and maintenance of the no forced redundancy provisions, indefinite salary maintenance for redeployed staff and vested sick leave.
Five unions rallied twice in front of chambers to protest against the council’s offer of a 2.25 per cent annual increase for some staff, while those on administrative levels 1 to 3 – mostly women who worked in libraries and as administrative assistants and PAs – were offered 1 per cent a year plus an annual $550 lump sum over four years.
The Services Union secretary Neil Henderson welcomed the new offer.
“Staff are still to vote, but it’s a great outcome. I think the troops will be very happy with it.”
“It’s a great victory for union members who stood together and got the outcome they deserved,” he said.
Logan city image chair Laurie Smith said he was pleased if an outcome had been negotiated to the satisfaction of all parties.
“I’ll be pleased everyone can bring this to a satisfactory conclusion.”
