TWO Logan teens have been named for selection in Queensland’s under 19 Men’s Softball squad.
Layton Reid from Boronia Heights and Sheldon Waller from Yarrabilba vied for a coveted spot in the side during the 2018 Queensland under 19 Men’s State Championships at Noosa from October 5 to 7.
Teams from all parts of Queensland contested the competition including Logan, Gladstone/Ipswich, Hervey Bay/Redcliffe, Noosa/Maryborough, Redlands, Caboolture, Rockhampton and Toowoomba.
Logan City dominated over the three days claiming the Brisbane trophy at the top of the ladder with Caboolture securing the runner up position with the Cairns trophy.
Toowoomba trailed in third, Rockhampton fourth, Redlands fifth, Hervey Bay/Redcliffe sixth, Ipswich/Gladstone seventh and Noosa/Maryborough eighth.
The SQI President’s trophy went to Rockhampton.
Reid and Waller secured a place in the under 19 men’s team and won spots in an honorary Australian side: ‘All Tournament Team’.
Waller received the Tournament MVP while Reid was awarded as the Best Pitcher of the Tournament and Player of the Grand Final.
In the meantime, the Queensland under 19 women’s Softball squad was decided after a three day championship at Cairns
Ipswich/Logan City/ Rockhampton took on Brisbane, Caboolture, Far North Queensland, Redcliffe and the Redlands.
Far North Queensland won the competition with Ipswich/Logan City/Rockhampton trailing in last place.
The under 19 state teams will now begin trainign to compete at the Australian under 19 Championships due to be held early next year.
