CANCER survivors, carers and the wider community came together to celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer at Jimboomba Relay For Life.
The Cancer Council Queensland fundraising challenge, organised by passionate local volunteers brought together 330 people in 41 teams to keep a baton moving for 18 hours in a relay-style walk or run overnight at Hills College, raising more than $62,000.
Team Opal from Logan Village over 50s village Opal by Living Gems fielded the largest team with 52 participants and raised $11,700.
Cr Laurie Koranski, a former Cancer Council ambassador, has been actively involved in both the Jimboomba and Logan Relays for Life since inception.
“One in two Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes,” Cr Koranski said.
“Our community has raised more than $1 million since 2005 which is an incredible achievement.”
The event kicked off on Saturday at 3pm and ended Sunday at 9am. Highlights included a candelight ceremony, performance by Angie Grace and Sunday breakfast.
