TRIBUTE was paid to the bravery, courage and dedication of police officers during the National Police Remembrance Day ceremony at Emmaus College on Friday.
Queensland police, councillors, state politicians, chaplains and members of the community attended the event to remember 147 Queensland police officers who died while doing their job.
Assistant police commissioner Brian Wilkins said his thoughts were with Goodna police constable Peter McAulay, 24, who was sent to Princess Alexandra Hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a car on Thursday morning at Booval.
“No matter how experienced, skilled, equipped or brave an officer may be, at times fate and circumstances will result in serious injury or death to one of our officers,” he said.
“During tragic times we have seen and are grateful for the support from the Queensland community.”
Members of the community were invited to lay wreathes out of respect to those who have fallen.
Queensland police minister Mark Ryan said it was important to remember the work police officers do to create a safer community.
“The men and women who faithfully served the Queensland Police Service are truly missed,” Mr Ryan said.
“I have comfort in knowing their memories will live on in the hearts and minds of their loved ones.”
National Police Remembrance Day is officially on Saturday, September 29.
