EMMAUS College hauled the lion’s share of $14,000 worth of sporting equipment set aside for Jimboomba schools under Coles’ Sports for Schools program.
The program has delivered footballs, basketballs, javelins, hockey sticks, skipping ropes, racquets, nets, first aid kits, cricket bats and softball bats to six primary and secondary schools across the region.
Emmaus College collected 92,000 of the 354,000 vouchers across Jimboomba.
Assistant principal Stephen Chipps said the sporting vouchers enabled Emmaus to secure about $3000 worth of sporting gear.
“It will make a big difference. We made the decision that this equipment will not only go towards replenishing sports equipment within the school, but also go towards our playground leaders program,” he said.
“It will give our year six students further options to play and integrate with younger kids in Prep and years one and two.
“This is where we will see the biggest benefit of being able to help younger kids learn to take turns and play fairly.”
Coles state general manager Jerry Farrell said he was impressed with the community spirit behind Emmaus College.
“We hope the new sports equipment will result in a lot of healthy, active fun for school kids in Jimboomba,” he said.
Coles is expected to spend $10 million for sporting gear to be distributed to schools across Australia.
