YARRABILBA is set to be the melting pot of Logan.
The Cultural Remix Festival will unite people from various cultures and backgrounds at the Darlington Parklands for a day of dancing, family friendly activities and entertainment on September 30.
Administrator of the recently formed Yarrabilba Panable Multicultural Orchestra, Jane Dear, said band members from the Democratic Republic of Congo would show off their skills in an African Dance Workshop.
There will be New Zealand traditional music and reggae performed as the headline act on stage, in addition to a kiwi huka.
Event sponsors will fund face painting, jumping castles, an animal farm, craft activities and a clown to provide entertainment.
International food will be available.
Ms Dear said the event would promote the diversity and strength of the local community.
“We want to get people behind the multicultural scene in Yarrabilba and incorporate cohesion in the community. The event is weighted towards the kiwis and Africans as the dominant cultures in the area,” she said.
“Everyone will be there at one time and will give them opportunities to meet new friends. Yarrabilba is a young suburb and this is an opportunity to do an event to give Yarrabilba something to be proud of.”
People who register to the event can also go into the draw to win a variety of prizes including a Tank Drum, Mbira and a Ukulele.
The event is going ahead with grant funding from Bendigo Bank, Lendlease and Logan City Council.
The Cultural Remix Festival will begin at 10am running til 3pm.
