MORE than 2000 Marsden State High School students will unite for their first full school parade inside the freshly unveiled Centre of Excellence on Friday.
The $5.6 million Queensland government funded multi-purpose Centre of Excellence building project has been in the pipeline for the past 18 months.
Executive principal Andrew Peach said it would open the door to new opportunities for the 2250 students at Marsden State High School.
“There will be opportunities for our kids in a world class facility from a sporting perspective in terms of preparation and recovery,” he said.
“We will be able to hold our annual awards night and continue to engage with our community through this facility and bring more sporting events here.”
The building will provide sufficient space to enable more full school events to unfold in the future.
Centre of Excellence manager Ian Carapeto said the facility included premier standard sporting resources including a gym, recovery room and basketball courts.
“We are one of the only schools in the state to have a FIBA (International Basketball Federation) level two basketball court and hoop,” he said.
“That set up means you can hold a Commonwealth Games trial in here and it will be certified for that.”
Waterford MP Shannon Fentiman attended the official opening of the centre on Saturday.
“It was fantastic to see first-hand the new centre’s facilities that includes two basketball courts, professional gym, recovery room and rehearsal space for performing arts students,” Ms Fentiman said.
“The Palaszczuk Government’s $5.6 million investment in this wonderful centre is part of a $200 million investment into state schools through the Advancing Queensland Schools program and just one way we are shaping the future of Logan kids.”
The first sod was turned on the Centre of Excellence project on October 14, 2017 and it was officially opened on Saturday, August 18.
