LITTLE Peter Rabbit and his mum look more like art than icing and there may be just as much work in them.
Jane Thomas, of Knapp Creek, south of Beaudesert said there was hours of labour in this whimsical work that will top a cake at her youngest daughter Angela’s coming baby shower.
Baby is not due for weeks, but Mrs Thomas needed a head start.
The Beaudesert Cake Decorators’ Association president has been working at the same time on something even more spectacular.
It crowns a display by the Beaudesert group at the Queensland Cake Expo at Logan Entertainment Centre this weekend. The theme is flights of fantasy.
Groups travel from near and far to compete and attend displays and workshops. Each puts on its own spectacular joint group display in sugar work which may tower or spread across tabletops.
The Beaudesert group meets monthly at Jimboomba RSL Hall.
One recent weekend, members gathered for special workshop and to talk tactics in the lead-up to the big event.
Some may have seen a snap of the work of art but no one’s talking about that before doors open on Friday at 10am.
“We can’t say too much,” said Mrs Thomas.
“It’s a secret.”
Mrs Thomas is best known for the cakes she creates for the St Thomas Anglican Debutant Ball in Beaudesert each year.
This year’s cake was number 29. Each has been a miracle in intricate and traditional of sugar flower and lace work.
Go to the Queensland Cake Expo at Logan Entertainment Centre on Friday, August 24 from 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26 from 9am to 4pm.
