A RIDER who escaped police by jumping off a stolen motorbike and into another vehicle is wanted in connection to thefts from a home.
Police are also looking for the drivers of the getaway vehicle and another car, which were both driven away from police at the scene.
Jimboomba police station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said officers saw three vehicles – a dark grey silver-coloured Honda Accord, an old white van and the stolen Yamaha motorbike – being driven in close succession yesterday about 1pm.
Police tried unsuccessfully to intercept the motorbike rider, who escaped by jumping off the bike and into one of the two other vehicles.
Senior Sergeant Waugh said the motorbike, left abandoned by the rider at the scene, had been stolen from a home, alongside another motorbike and a playstation.
He said the home’s occupant told police his home had been entered sometime between 7.40am and 4pm.
The victim returned home to find the garage door open, a motorbike pushed over in the carport, his home searched and possessions stolen.
Senior Sergeant Waugh said the offenders had not yet been caught by police, warning property owners to lock-up, be discrete about what they owned and take security precautions.
He said a spate of dirt bike thefts had been reported to the station, with some pinched from outside homes after owners had forgotten to remove ignition keys.
He advised owners to not post pictures of their dirt bikes on social media, to record serial numbers and identifying features, buy lock-up chains and hide parked bikes away from street view.
