LOGAN advocate for domestic violence survivors Cindy Barden wants to give comfort to children in situations where there is no joy to be had.
The former Jimboomba resident founded the Lil Bug Love Kits trial program launched by Logan Police on August 1.
Under the program, Logan Police stations are equipped with kits containing a toy bug, colouring-in book, pencils, a pencil case and a set of headphones to support children at police stations escaping from domestic violence.
Ms Barden said she hoped the program would be rolled out across Queensland and Australia if the pilot program was successful in Logan.
“I wanted this to start in Logan because they helped me and I want to help those who helped me,” she said.
“I hope this program can help reduce trauma and help kids in these situations grow up to be young adults that make better decisions for themselves.”
Jimboomba police Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said the kits would offer an escape to kids dealing with a tough situation.
“The idea of the earphones is so that the kids don’t have to listen to all the bad stories involving their parents,” he said.
