STUDENTS rallied behind their house colours for the start of a two day sports carnival at Jimboomba State School on Monday.
The primary school students from grade four to six took part in long jump, high jump, shot putt, tabloid, 800 metre and 200 metre sprint events as part of a warm up leading on to the whole school event on Tuesday.
Principal Tim Farrell said the students pulled off an impressive start to the sports carnival.
“There has been a good spirit, very good attendance, some fast times and good long jump lengths,” he said.
“Across Lindesay, Flinders, Henderson and Logan houses there has been good enthusiasm and a good warm up before the big event on Tuesday with prep to grade six.”
Year six student Ryan Sutcliffe broke a 23-year old discus record at the school grounds on Wednesday last week hurling an impressive 23.46 metres.
Previous record holder Sam Powell’s previous record was 21.76 metres.
Mr Sutcliffe has been one of Jimboomba’s sporting stars this year, having also won selection into the South Coast swimming team for 50 metre butterfly, freestyle and backstroke.
