THE Chambers Flat Mustangs Brothers Rugby League club is ramping up its fundraising efforts after the under 9s team was invited to an iconic carnival in the idyllic Whitsundays.
More than 800 players from 56 teams took part in the Paul Bowman Challenge at Proserpine in 2017, and were graced by the presence of former Cowboys great Paul Bowman.
Under 9s Mustangs coach Shay Chadburn said the experience would offer the juniors an opportunity to form stronger friendships in a new environment.
“This will be good exposure for the kids to be playing teams from all over Queensland,” he said.
“It will be a team bonding exercise where we can stay in the same accommodation together with with family.”
The Mustangs will play six games over the weekend from September 22 to 23.
Chadburn said the Mustangs would fire up the BBQ at Coles for a sausage sizzle this Saturday from 10am to 3pm as part of the first step of their fundraising.
“This is a one off opportunity for us and the club is right behind us and helping as much as possible,” he said.
“Hopefully we can make this a yearly thing for the club. A few of the kids are already excited but once they get there they will be blown away with the number of teams around.”
The Mustangs are also planning sausage sizzle fundraisers at the Park Ridge Shopping Centre and Bunnings in coming weeks and months to make the dream trip a reality for the juniors.
