THREE Beaudesert Swimming Club members will compete at regionals after winning their races and breaking records.
Jimboomba State School student Ryan Sutcliffe, Beaudesert State High School student Kaleb Browne and St Mary’s Catholic School student Lucas Dansey competed at the Pacific District Swimming Trials.
Students from 40 schools across the district competed on February 12 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Ryan, 11, made age champion for winning and breaking six records in 50m breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, butterfly and 100m in breaststroke and freestyle.
“I was only hoping to win two races but I didn’t think I’d win all six,” he said.
“I worked really heard to break the records.”
Ryan said he was excited to go to regionals with the aim of making it to the state competition for the second time.
Kaleb, 16, won the 17-19 boys age champion for winning all races, including breaking the previous record for 50m freestyle made in 2015.
He also won 50m breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle and 100m freestroke, butterfly and backstroke.
Kaleb said he was confident he would come out on top after training five times a week.
“They were easy races except the freestyle and butterfly, I had a bit of competition,” he said.
“I have a passion for swimming and I feel I am improving every year.”
Kaleb said he hoped he would make it to the state competition.
Lucas, who is described as a fish in water, won age champion for placing first in 50m backstroke and second in freestyle and butterfly.
The nine-year-old said his love for swimming might have run in the family as his grandparents used to run Beaudesert Swimming Pool.
The trio will compete at regionals on February 26.
