JIMBOOMBA residents will be among the 16,000 Queenslanders between the Gold Coast and Weipa to offer hope to those affected by cancer in 2018.
The Jimboomba 2018 Relay for Life group is aiming to raise $120,000 in time for the relay to be held between October 6 and October 7.
While the event is still more than eight months away, Cancer Council Queensland is calling on all communities to get behind the cause and register a team.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillian said making a difference was an around the clock effort.
“It’s our vision in 2018 to support Queenslanders affected by cancer every minute, every hour, every day – and this can be made possible through Relay For Life,” Ms McMillan said.
“All funds raised by teams are directed into lifesaving cancer research for better treatments, prevention programs, and local support services for those affected.
“We hope that around 16,000 people will take up the baton this year to make a difference.”
Early bird registration of $20 expires 12 weeks ahead of each event, which will be July 15 for Jimboomba.
The City of Logan Relay for Life campaign will also run from May 5 to May 6 with early bird registration expiring on March 4.
Relay For Life is a mammoth 18 hour community event involving teams of up to 15 people keeping a baton moving in a relay style.
Teams also take part in inspirational ceremonies, fundraising activities and team challenges, supporting each other and sharing stories of hope.
