FLAMES erupted on the Mount Lindesay Highway this afternoon after a truck lost control at Browns Plains.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the blaze occurred just before 1pm when the truck lost control on the highway.
It is unclear what caused the fire, which has now been extinguished, but smoke is still smoldering in the area.
“When it is safe to do so we will investigate immediately,” the spokesperson said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the truck driver was taken to QEII Hospital in a stable condition.
The incident caused immediate traffic disruption on the highway with motorists diverted to the Logan Motorway.
Northbound traffic has re-opened but the southbound road remains closed from the Regents park exit.
The Queensland Police spokesperson urged motorists to find an alternative route.
“If they can it is best to avoid the highway,” the spokesperson said.
“There will be some delays for north-bound traffic and south-bound traffic won’t be going anywhere just yet.”
Traffic is being diverted through Johnson Road or to the Logan Motorway.
