LOGAN Village Men Shed members have welcomed the arrival of a new sliding panel saw which will open the door future projects to benefit the community.
This was made possible with a $2000 grant through the Federal Government’s National Shed Development Program delivered from Wright MP Scott Buchholz.
Men Shed president Ian Bell said this provided the lion’s share of the funds to purchase the new equipment which would make saw-related projects simpler.
“This grant opens up the possibilities for future projects, there are no limits on what our members can do and create here,” he said.
The Logan Village Men Shed plays a vital community role in the area, providing maintenance for the Lion’s Club community hall and an array of organisations in need of a hand.
The club has already recruited three new members this year with open days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Mr Bell said there was a strong sense of mateship within the organisation.
“It is mainly for peace of mind and looking after our health... a lot of men can’t talk with their wives or people at home so they come here and we talk amongst ourselves,” he said.
“Health-wise we look after each other, the Men Shed Association started up to promote men’s health and that is what we are trying to do here.”
Mr Buchholz said the grant funding went to a worthy cause.
“The Logan Village Men’s Shed makes such a difference in the lives of its members with metal work, woodwork, cooking and gardening workshops as well as IT tutoring and improves the health and wellbeing of its members,” Mr Buchholz said.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that supports the initiatives of community-minded groups like the Logan Village Men’s Shed through this grant.”
