TWO New Beith dancers have successfully auditioned for a Little Mermaid ballet performance with a twist.
Katelyn Jensen and Nia Savas will join 55 of Queensland’s finest young dancers aged 10-19 from 28 dancing schools across Queensland on stage at QPAC from January 17-20.
The Ballet Theatre of Queensland production is based on the well-known Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, but there will be some surprises in store when the dancers come on stage.
“What is different about our production is it is not the original story everyone knows, it is more of an adaptation of it,” Ballet dancer Katelyn Jensen said.
Jensen, 17, has been involved in dancing and ballet since she was three years old and her passion continues to shine through.
She, along-side Ms Savas sacrificed every Sunday for the last six months to attend all-day rehearsals in Brisbane leading up to audition.
“I just love ballet, I do a range of different styles like jazz and contemporary (music) but ballet stands out the most,” Ms Jensen said.
“I love and enjoy the discipline of it, it is framed to the person I am outside of the dance studio.”
Jensen will this year pursue a diploma of musical theatre to further develop her skills and enhance her career prospects.
“I would like to improve my diversity with the musical theatre course and hopefully get in to commercial cruise ships,” she said.
Bookings to the show can be made through QPAC on www.qpac.com.au or by calling 136 246.
