Consistent performances throughout this year’s V8 Supercar season has helped Munruben’s Chaz Mostert to claim the 2017 Enduro Cup.
Mostert and teammate Steve Owen were crowned the best endurance racers in the series after finishing third at Sandown, 10th at Bathurst, first on Saturday October 21 and seventh on the Sunday October 22 at the Gold Coast.
Each performance giving the teammates enough points to claim the Pirtek Enduro Cup trophy from nearest rivals Fabian Coulthard and Tony D’Alberto, 680 points to 612.
The former Beaudesert High School student said the cup win was a good reward for his whole Prodrive Racing team.
“There was some pretty consistent running for us, we had some ok results and some average ones as well,” he said.
“So it was a bit up and down for us but at the end of the day it was still good to take the Enduro Cup away.
“It was awesome to be able to get the Enduro Cup, it’s the first time our team has had it and the first time a Ford team has had it as well.”
Mostert was full of praise for teammate Steve Owen.
“It’s always great having Stevo, he is a very safe set of hands, he always brings the car back in one piece, the car was speedy this year and together we did a good enough job to get the Enduro Cup,” he said.
Mostert who now bases himself on the Gold Coast said the October weekend was one he would remember for a long time to come
“It was fantastic, last few years I’ve been chasing really hard to get a surfboard (trophy), and I would’ve settled for third, the car was really good in the wet and I ended up getting the win,” he said.
“I loved getting the surfboard and then on the Sunday getting the Enduro Cup was a bit of a dream come true weekend.”
Mostert’s first place on October 21 also sees him sitting fourth in the drivers leaderboard on 2454 points 126 points behind championship front runner Jamie Whincup with the New Zealand V8 Supercar round to be raced this weekend at Pukekohe track in Auckland, New Zealand.
On top of his Enduro Cup success Mostert jetted to China last weekend where he won the GT Class for BMW in the Asian Le Mans Series at Zhuhai, an experience he said he thoroughly enjoyed.
“It was the first time I ever raced in any Le Mans series like that and it is awesome to be able to represent BMW and be able to do something good with them,” he said.
“I’ve got another two rounds I can do in the Asian Le Mans series, I can’t do the final round because it clashes with the Bathurst 12 hour which I’m hoping to do as well.”
Mostert will be back in his Ford Falcon for this weekend’s ITM Auckland SuperSprint, with his run at Macau the week before the Coates Hire Newcastle 500.
