OUR hardworking State Emergency Services volunteers have been recognised by the region and state for their efforts during rescues and for their dedication and commitment.
Our SES volunteers deserve our recognition too for the important service they provide. During and after disasters they are out in the community, helping others.
During storms and floods, they are at the forefront of the response.
During search and rescue operations or bushfires they may provide support to agencies such as the Queensland Police Service or the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.
They also work to create awareness in the community so that we are reminded about how to prepare for and respond to disasters – what we can do ahead of bushfire season and what precautions we can take around our homes when storms are approaching, for example.
Jimboomba Times acknowledges the efforts of our SES members, who provide services for which they are not paid and support our community, often with little notice and at any time of the day or night.
Many volunteers work and are supported by their employers. To the business owners we also give credit for enabling the SES members to serve the community when required.
As a community, there is much we too can do. The SES receives government funding, but requires more financial support to further spread the services it can provide.
Across the state there are more than 6000 individuals who have signed up with the SES to offer their help in whatever way it is required.
But they always need more volunteers to ease the load on members and provide more help when the need arises.
The Times takes this opportunity to appeal to readers to consider how you can support the SES, either financially, as a volunteer, or simply with a word of thanks.
