Wildlife warrior
FOR over 35 years I have used Teviot Road and thought how wonderful it was to have the dam on the corner of Greenbank Road. There's nothing else like it on public display in our area. It's an aesthetically pleasing icon of the way of life people wanted when moving to the area, and a wildlife haven. I was absolutely stunned to read that it would be filled and made into a housing area. It seems that the council and the developers have made the decision to obliterate this lovely area, which could have been a local park, or just left as a great part of our local history. Please don't think the general population believes that most of the wildlife will be "relocated" – obviously only a small proportion will be. I'm surprised how much this has affected me; I'm saddened every time I turn the corner into Greenbank Road.

THE area around Logan Village has gone crazy with development and traffic. I stopped to help someone pick up several turtles on the road near a new estate that once had a natural dam. The person told me that the developer had filled it in.

Happy stakeholder
I HAVE seen the paid advertisements taken out by the self-titled ‘Highway Improvements Working Group’ in the Jimboomba Times. I have received the same in my mailbox, and been bailed up to sign their petition at Olleys. I reject the claim that “no stakeholders are happy”. The dictionary definition of the word “stakeholder” in this context is “a person with an interest or concern in something, especially a business”. My child catches the Route 8, Park Ridge Transit school bus which requires several crossings of the Mount Lindesay Highway both to and from school at Jimboomba. She regales me with stories of the most hair-raising near misses and it is almost always the intersections at Wearing Road and St Aldwyn Road. I am a person with a significant interest in the outcome of the proposed changes, and I can tell you I am very happy with the current proposed alteration and have contacted Linus Power MP to express my support. It would be more truthful of this lobby group to state “no businesses are happy”. I believe the signatures on their petition are from customers being asked to sign at the checkout – I doubt many would actually change their voting choices on the basis of the outcome of proposed intersection changes. I would be far more inclined to use the shops once the proposed alterations are complete. As it stands, I rarely go there because of the difficulty getting back on to the highway from St Aldwyn Road.
