SEPTEMBER 15 will have the temperature rising at Park Ridge Tavern when one of Australia’s most iconic rock bands, The Radiators, takes to the stage.
While the rock 'n' roll road to stardom can be fraught with mishap and broken bands, The Radiators are celebrating almost 40 years together since they played their first show.
Formed in a transition from a band called Big Swifty, little did they know they would go on to forge a unique sound and influence thousands of teenagers throughout Australia.
After debuting in Sydney in September, 1978, The Radiators embarked on a formidable performing schedule, playing more than 320 gigs in the first 12 months alone.
They soon came to the attention of major record companies and were signed to Warner Brothers in late 1979.
The release of their debut album Feel the Heat in March, 1980 was much anticipated by their many newly won fans.
So much so that they created history by being the first Australian band to have advanced pre-sales on their debut album, with 6000 copies having been sold before it was even released.
Feel the Heat went on to achieve Platinum status and a Top 10 position in the charts.
Since then, the band has gone from success to success and has shared the stage with other hit Aussie acts, including INXS, Rose Tattoo and AC/DC.
The Radiators still tour extensively, playing an average of 100 shows per year, and the band’s fans, young and old, still flock to grab a slice of living Aussie rock history.
Having recorded more than 100 songs that have helped them carve their own niche in the Australian rock music industry, The Radiators will now rock Park Ridge Tavern from 8pm on Friday, September 15. Tickets are $15 and available in-house. For more information, contact 3297 0500, or visit parkridgetavern.com.au.
