A SCHOOL is set to unveil its first tuckshop more than a century after it opened its doors in 1874.
The school has been open for 143 years and has never had a fully functioning tuckshop until now.
Cedar Creek Parents and Citizens’ Association president Caralee Dowler said it was an exciting event after the group has lobbied and raised funds for many years.
“We are very grateful for the many past and present volunteers who have helped us raise the money and those who have helped in many ways,” she said.
The association received a $35,000 state government grant and raised $40,000 through fund raising and donations to buy equipment and renovate the block.
The space was previously a storage room which then became a snack shop with limited supplies.
The money has gone towards buying equipment and renovating the block.
Ms Dowler said the space was previously an unused storage room which was then transformed into a snack shop.
She said despite children buying products from the shop, there was very limited supplies.
“It was a classroom with benches and freezers and there were no real cooking facilities,” she said.
“We didn’t have a sink, a stove or an oven and we were really limited to providing children fresh food options because of it.”
Pupils could now have fruit salad, toasted sandwiches and options like a chicken bread roll.
The tuckshop will open on Friday, May 12.
