There has been much talk about the Queensland electorate boundary redistribution proposal which was released recently and it’s no surprise given it will be the biggest change of state electoral boundaries in 30 years.
The draft and finalised boundaries will be decided by an independent redistribution commission and I will respect whatever decisions they make.
Until then I remain 100 per cent focused on representing the Beaudesert Electorate and fighting for the infrastructure and services we need.
Week in review (February 20 -24)
Last Monday, the week commenced with student leader induction ceremonies at two primary schools, a very special occasion for both the Year 6 children and their families.
That same day, Shadow Attorney-General Ian Walker visited the Beaudesert Electorate to discuss youth crime issues.
Our region has experienced a spate of juvenile crime recently, and many residents have expressed grave concerns to me that the youth justice system is letting down both victims of crime and our young people by constantly letting young offenders go with a “slap on the wrists”.
Sitting down with affected parties to hear their views, so we can put together policies that address their concerns, was hugely beneficial.
It was a very busy week in my role as a member of the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament, participating in meetings and inquiries on almost every day – the Committee is very busy as it is tasked with examining a large proportion of laws before Parliament to pick up mistakes, probe what effect (good or bad) the laws will have and ultimately decide whether the law should pass.
On Thursday 23 February I hosted Shadow Education Minister Tracy Davis on a tour of various local schools so she can see and hear first-hand the issues our region faces, both in terms of education but also concerning traffic and parking issues that exist at a number of our schools.
I also met with the Scenic Rim Mayor on Thursday to discuss issues facing the Council. On Friday, in my role as Shadow Tourism Minister I travelled to Hervey Bay to meet with local tourism groups and hear from them how the State Government can better promote tourism, not only in that region, but across the whole of Queensland.
As you can see, no day is the same as I move around the Electorate and it is a huge honour to be able to work every day seeking to make our communities a better place.
