Valentine’s Day is meant to be the most romantic day of the year; but for Courtenay Kruger, the annual occasion is a chance to test her skills.
The full-time florist, of Jimboomba’s Bunch It Up, will be up to her ears’ in flowers tomorrow and said she expected to sell more than 2500 long stemmed roses by the day’s end.
“It’s going to be chaos; organised chaos,” she said.
“We try to prepare for the busy day as much as we can – by ordering in our bears, greens and vases – and we prepare our roses the day before so they’re nice and fresh for Valentine’s Day.”
In the lead up to Valentine’s Day last year, Ms Kruger said she prepared for the day by working more than 30 hours overtime.
“It gets busy, even busier on the day itself, and that’s why I always recommend customers to pre-order their gifts and bouquets’,” she said.
“(Last week) we had about 50 orders a day come through for Valentine’s Day and we’re expecting the whole of Jimboomba to walk in on the day too.”
For those who have left spoiling a special someone until the last minute, Ms Kruger suggested bears, candles or an array of bright flowers – other than roses – as gifts.
“Valentine’s Day is always so nice to work on and be a part of, because everyone is always happy and they’re excited to give their loved ones gifts,” she said.
“If you want the best for your partner, or your parent or friend or child, get in early.
“That’s the best advice I can give.”
Ms Kruger added flowers should be kept in clean water, with the stems trimmed, to keep them fresh.
