Emmaus College has announced year 12 students Angelina Kardum and Matthew Creevey as college captains for 2017.
Year 6 students Jacob Marks and Talissa Griffiths will also join them at the helm as the junior school college captains.
The leaders received their badges at the opening liturgy held on January 6.
At Emmaus College, a student vote is tallied for prospective captains, but captains are appointed their positions by teachers after an interview process.
Head of secondary Stephen Adair said the student council and leadership team was reshaped each year by the new captains.
“It is up to them as to how they shape their role in our school,” he said.
“All four of these captains love to help out other students and they are all motivated.
“They are all fantastic and we couldn’t be happier with the team.
“Each of these students are exemplar role models and they inspire others.”
Year 6 captain Talissa said she hopes to be able to help the younger students have a voice, while Jacob wants to motivate each of the students to work to college values.
Both were nervous when receiving their badges, however Talissa knew they had “to stand up and do it”.
Year 12 captain Matthew said he wants to be a valuable role model to younger Emmaus students.
“I’ve got a passion for this school and believe I am a very dedicated student, so I think I being in this role suits me,” he said.
“There is a responsibility and respect that comes with this role.”
As an avid sportsman, Matthew will work towards lifting the sporting profile of Emmaus College.
Fellow captain, Angelina said she aspires to take on board the hard work last year’s college captains completed.
“They are really big shoes to fill,” she said.
Angelina said she had a few ideas in mind for the new look leadership team but didn’t want to give anything away.
“I will be working to get to know more students to inspire and get the community of Emmaus together,” she said.
“I want to teach these younger students that you don’t have to follow the pack.”
