As a community, we are only just starting to talk about depression, suicide, anxiety, and mental health, as they’ve been taboo topics.
Aussie men don’t cry, women don’t quit, and teens are told to toughen up. This has been the stereotypes we’ve grown up with.
However, one in three people in Australia will experience prolonged grief and anxiety. One in 10 will have a serious encounter with depression.
The Seven Day Adventist Church at Park Ridge has been running the Depression and Anxiety Recovery program for seven years.
This advertising feature is sponsored by the following organisation:
- Seven Day Adventist Church, Park Ridge
It continues to run as more than 90 per cent of participants defeat their depression or the effects of long-term grief and anxiety to regain their happiness.
The reason it is such a successful program is because it doesn’t rely on one strategy, but combines many techniques.
With the support of the facilitators, participants learn and then try out for themselves ways to deal with the underlying causes of their depression and anxiety throughout the eight-week program.
This program is not just for people who are dealing with anxiety, depression of prolonged grief and loss but for those who are living with the effects of someone close to them who is grappling with these illnesses.
