Every year, the arrival of Australia Day on January 26 signals the new year is well under way.
By now, most people who were serious about their resolutions for 2017 have embraced and settled into them.
As often happens at this time of year, the less committed have possibly already shelved their resolutions.
Much like aiming to achieve personal aspirations, we can consider the Jimboomba region and determine a ‘wish list’ of ways to improve the safety and prosperity of the people who live here.
At Jimboomba Times, we have identified some key areas we would like to see improved in 2017 and we would like to hear suggestions from our readers on what could help make our region a better place for all.
To start the conversation, here are some of Jimboomba Times’ suggestions:
1. Upgrade the roads. Our roads, especially the Mount Lindesay Highway, are in dire need of improvement. Stories and conversations about the region’s highways dominated this paper in 2016, and the highway must stop being used a political football that gets kicked from one side to the other depending on which party is in government. Action must be taken.
2. Improve public transport. Public transport in this region is in woefully short supply. With few buses and no trains, people are required to own a car, which adds to the problems of the over-burdened highway.
3. Increase health services. This region is serviced by a public hospital in Logan and another in Beaudesert. Jimboomba Times reported last year on how people who were required to see medical specialists were often late for appointments due to highway congestion.
