Jimboomba’s Cancer Council branch have taken out the region’s highest fundraising accolade for the fourth year in a row.
This year, the Jimboomba team claimed the title for the Gold Coast region after raising more than $90,000 in the 2016 CancerFREE Challenge campaign.
Beaudesert Branch was awarded the CancerFREE Challenge Spirit award for their efforts throughout 2016.
The CancerFREE Challenge campaign rewards and acknowledges Cancer Council Queensland’s most talented fundraisers in the State by inviting them to fundraise and compete for the rights to name a research grant.
72 Queensland fundraisers accepted the challenge.
Jimboomba and Beaudesert Cancer Council Branches were among 80 of the Gold Coast region’s most dedicated fundraisers invited to the exclusive thank you party in Surfers Paradise.
Upper Coomera resident Teresa Foster was awarded the Highest Fundraising Individual.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said the party provided an opportunity to showcase the difference supporters made through their fundraising efforts, and celebrate their valued contribution.
“The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Transforming Cancer Control in Queensland’, recognising how our supporters have enabled us to advance our mission,” she said.
“Our volunteers and fundraisers have done the Gold Coast region proud and we can’t thank them enough for their tireless dedication and enthusiasm in the fight against cancer.
“The Gold Coast’s CancerFREE Challenge participants have collectively raised more than $90,000 for Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in in cancerresearch, education programs, and patient support services.
“The people who take part in this campaign, our Hope Ambassadors, are champions in the fight against cancer, standing up to cancer in their local communities and inspiring others to get involved.”
In the Gold Coast region more than 3400 people are diagnosed with cancer each year and around 1000 die from the disease.
