Gymnasts at Jimboomba Gymnastics will now get more bounce during their training, thanks to a $2000 grant from Logan City Council.
Councillor Trevina Schwarz, who met with the club last week, said the money – which came from her share of the Mayor's and Councillors' Community Benefit Fund – went towards buying the club new specialised mats.
She awarded the sporting precinct for their ongoing efforts, rapid growth and significant involvement within the community.
“They do an awful lot for our kids and the club currently operates out of two commercial premises; so, it was the least council could do,” councillor Schwarz said.
Coach Callie Wall said the new “landing mats” would ensure the safety of their gymnasts during training.
More than 100 new members have joined since the start of the year.
“It’s absolutely fantastic and the new mats have a lot of bounce,” she said.
“Unfortunately, it’s just one box ticked-off on our list of equipment that needs to be replaced.
“It’s never ending.”
The next goal on the agenda for Jimboomba Gymnastics was to move the club – which is currently split between two locations on South Street and Paul Court – to one location.
“We’re currently raising money, and working with council, to make this happen; but it would be even better if we could find a sponsor to make our dream, of having everyone together, a reality,” coach Wall said.
