TWENTY junior sporting clubs across Logan will receive a share in almost $20,000 of sporting equipment to be delivered to clubs in the coming months.
Greenbank Pony Club Inc, Jimboomba Redbacks Australian Football Club Inc, Jimboomba Cricket Association Inc and Jimboomba Junior Rugby League Football Club Inc are just some of the clubs to benefit from the joint partnership between the Logan City Council and the Brisbane Lions.
The grants have been given under the Logan Sports Development Program, which also provides up to $70,000 a year in travel assistance to Logan-based individuals and teams attending state, national and international competitions.
Chair of the Sports and Community Services Committee councillor Steve Swenson said the partnership had provided $450,000 in travel assistance to almost 800 applicants since 2012 and sporting equipment grants were becoming a regular part of the program.
“We are now providing two grant rounds a year – to provide support for junior summer and winter sports as well as maintaining the travel assistance grants,” he said.
“This is the third round of grants for equipment designed to support and encourage junior participation in a wide range of sports.
CEO of the Brisbane Lions Greg Swann said the Club was proud to be part of the Logan community.
“We see this program as a fantastic opportunity to help local sportspeople achieve their goals,” he said.
“As a Club, we do thousands of hours of work in the community every year – it’s something at the heart of everything we do.”
