Hills International golf star Nicha Kanpai, 12, has placed sixth at the IMG academy junior world championship in America this month.
Kanpai finished on even par over the three day competition.
This was her second time playing in America, where she improved from a previous 11th placed finish.
Kanpai competed for the prime position in the 11 and 12 years girls category against 92 other international players.
Albeit nervous, Kanpai was happy with her performance throughout the competition.
“I was very nervous, I had been waiting all year for this competition,” she said,
“A lot of good players come from all over the world to play in America.
“It was so long to wait, so I became more nervous.”
Over the weekend, Kanpai won the south-east Queensland junior girls’ championship for Hills.
Fellow Hills Golf Academy player 16-year-old Ashley Lau recently placed fifth at the British junior amateur tournament.
Lau also placed fifth at the Queen Sirikit Cup representing Malaysia.
The cup was a ladies event and Lau finished a one over for the tournament.
Hills Academy director of golf Tom Berndt said it was a huge achievement to be selected when she was not in the country.
“This was a huge leap of faith for them,” he said.
“But she was selected on her strength of play which was demonstrated through her placing.”
Lau is currently playing in Malaysia.
