The biggest test in the nation kicks off tonight with the Maroons taking on the Blues in a bid to see who will take this year’s State of Origin bragging rights.
With Queensland coming off a win, Jimboomba businesses are hoping to cash in on the opportunity posed by one of the great games of the year.
Logan Country Chamber of Commerce president Kerry Menck said large sporting events and annual events often have a positive effect on takeaway businesses and events establishments.
“We know that events like this are often takeaway nights because people are rushing to get home or to a State of Origin party,” she said.
“This is another chance to support local businesses.”
Ms Menck said businesses can use the first game as a public relations tool to get their name out there.
“Businesses need to plan ahead for an increase in sales and plan their ordering, wearing the extra cost as people will come back if they have efficient service in these busier times,” she said.
Eagle Boys Jimboomba franchisee Sanjay Kundnani said State of Origin is a great time for their store as the whole team gets into the footy spirit.
“We love seeing our customers share our enthusiasm for the game and we look forward to the State of Origin matches more than any other event,” he said.
On a normal Wednesday we would do about 150 pizzas. On Origin night we expect about 400.

“It’s the one time of the year we can swap our uniforms for our favourite team’s jersey.
“We are currently gearing up, preparing the dough and warming the ovens for the night as we expect it to be very busy.”
Mr Kundnani said this Origin night the store would put on 13 people instead of their usual Wednesday night staff of 6.
“On a normal Wednesday we would do about 150 pizzas. On Origin night we expect about 400,” he said.
Jimboomba Country Tavern venue manager Adam Wiencke said State of Origin is normally a big night with increased bar patronage for all three games.
“We will definitely have more staff on and will be running the courtesy bus,” he said.
“A night like Origin probably only compares to grand finals games, but even then those are on the weekend.
“Normal Wednesday nights are steak nights which mean an average night in the restaurant, so it’s a significant difference.”
