The Jimboomba Redbacks continued their winning ways with a hard earned 107 to 45 win over Coorparoo on Saturday.
Tim Martin stood out up forward kicking five goals, while around the ground Bryce Tolimson Jacob Guise and Brady Lawrence got plenty of possession.
Returning from shoulder injuries Liam Towner bagged two goals and alongside Dan Finlay down back they showed how much the team had missed them. Jared Jackson a veteran of 135 games caused a stir, managing to kick his first ever goal in AFL including juniors and seniors.
Jimboomba coach Ray Cole said the Redbacks were now well placed for a finals run.
“A great win regardless of the score we knew we were in for a game. Coorparoo were very experienced but lacked fitness and we were able to over run them in the end,” he said.
“We have now beaten three out of four teams that finished in the finals last year so l could say things are going great guns at the moment but there is along way to go, if we win the next three we might just lock in a finals spot.”
Under 13s
The under 13 Jimboomba Redbacks won their game on Sunday beating the Ipswich Cats on their home ground 5.4-34 to 2.5-17. Sebastian van Heerden was surrounded by a sea of blue Cats and managed to get the ball to his team mates, that plus other great work won him the best on ground award. Coach Gillham said that Cooper Kihlstrom-Ballin and Quin Hanna gave their best performances so far. Every goal kicked was celebrated by the whole team showing that they are starting to gel as a unit. Kaleb Nolan kicked three goals and Dylan Brisbane kicked one.
Under 11s
A strong second quarter defensive effort was the highlight of the under 11s away game against Wests Juniors. Jimboomba held Wests goalless during early thanks to strong efforts by the midfield and backline. Game highlights included strong attack by James Hargreaves, speedy rebound efforts by Bryden Wallace, and strong tagging by Jared Rickuss. Corbin Kaminski, Billy, Tony Damouni and Keini Dawes were also excellent.
Under 9s
Another gutsy performance and inspiring team effort by the under 9s at Rochedale. The team work continued with effort, enthusiasm, confidence. Seth Roycroft scored his first goal while Aston Lyons and Zahra Brimble were outstanding.
Under 6s
The Redbacks under 6s team has continued to improve on 'sharing the ball' and 'following the ball', working together as a team. This week our newest member, Chase, joined the team, making Under 6's 15 in total. Playing against the Logan Suns, and with their numbers, the Redbacks supplied half of the opposing team. Our "Special Mentions" this week were awarded to Kade and Oliver.
