The spirit of the Jimboomba region was on show on Anzac Day as the wider community turned out in droves to honour our diggers both past and present.
A huge parade featuring servicemen and women, veterans, local schools as well as community groups marched from the top of Jimboomba Shopping Centre down to Rotary Park for the Commemorative Service.
On the way to the service Captain Nathan MacDonald from Enogerra’s 1st regiment took the salute.
Captain MacDonald who also gave the address was one of two special guests of the sub-branch, with Daniel Rossouw, a WWII veteran of the South African defence force who served at Cairo and Tobruk also in attendance.
Mr Malkin said the sub-branch was thrilled by the presence of Mr Rossouw.
“He is the epitome of a veteran right now, he is probably one the very few WWII guys that we have, especially in this area,” he said.
“For him to be here, it’s an honour and it just shows you the strength of character of those guys that will come out when he is nearly 95 to a service like this and he stands when everybody else stands and it means a lot to us so we are happy for that.”
Mr Malkin was thankful for the community’s continued support of Anzac Day services.
“They are a wonderful community, they are generous and they are supportive, and they turn out like this with all of the kids its pretty good,” he said.
