The nation is tipped to go to the polls on July 2 as a a result of a double dissolution trigger the Prime Minister (PM) can now pull due to the lack of support from the opposition, the Greens and the independents for the governments bill to reestablish the Australian Building and Construction Commission and Mr Buchholz said he would be ready for any higher duties offered by the PM.
“Prime Minister Turnbull well and truly knows my enthusiasm to serve,” he said.
Mr Buchholz who was a staunch supporter of the former PM Tony Abbott who instilled him as chief whip, said that once the Coalition decided to demote Mr Abbott from the leadership he made his eagerness to help the Turnbull led government known.
“When I served in the previous position as the chief government whip, no one should have been under any illusion that I didn't support the then prime minster (Tony Abbott), because I genuinely believe the Australian public have lost the appetite for a revolving door of prime ministership, the Rudd, Gillard, Rudd, Abbott, Turnbull, they want stability,” he said.
“I absolutely and wholeheartedly support the democratic process of our party room, of which I am privileged to sit in, the party room had spoken and I immediately advised the PM that I’m enthusiastic to serve in whatever capacity and as a result he’s elevated me to the chairman of the joint standing committee on electoral reform and I’m privileged that he has acknowledged my contribution.”
