WORKS have begun on the Logan Village State School’s new tuckshop after it received a grant from Smart Schools Subsidy Scheme (SSS) in late 2014.
The school was giving $265,000 from SSS after the P and C committee was able to save $100,000 towards building the new structure.
Principal Alan Bunce said the P and C committee was very strategic with saving money help make the grant possible.
“It is quite difficult to make funds these days through fundraising,” he said.
“Grant writing is the best way to make money and with the SSS grant it is a dollar for dollar, so having $100,000 in the bank we were able to apply for $265,000.
“Our previous P and C president Amanda Connolly was instrumental in putting the money away and making it possible for this grant to happen.”
Mr Bunce said grants like the Smart Schools Subsidy Scheme were vital for schools like Logan Village State School to grow.
“We would never be able to do something like this without that sort of support,” he said.
He said the tuckshop rebuild was well overdue, with the original structure dating back to 1981.
The new tuckshop is expected to be completed by mid-January 2016.
