LAND on the corner of Bushman and Homestead Drives in Flagstone is set to transform into a major community retail centre.
Community feedback is now being sought on the development of the Woolworths-anchored Flagstone Shopping Centre, slated for opening in early 2017.
Construction works on the centre would begin in mid-2016, pending council approval.
The development is not the first of its kind proposed for the site, with discussions around an expansion of the existing Flagstone Shopping Village under way for several years.
Shopping centre owner Chris Zenonos of Hope Island Consortium said the current proposal “expanded on” those previously put forward for the site.
“(Previous proposals) were underpinned by a smaller supermarket and consequently unviable in terms of trade and supporting services,” he said.
“Since the time of those approvals, market conditions have changed, and a new master plan has been developed to ensure the shopping centre is viable and meets the needs of local residents, in particular the improved access to a full range of weekly shopping, hospitality and health services.”
Mr Zenonos said the proposed development would bring a range of services to the Flagstone community.
“The proposed development is set to feature a full-line Woolworths supermarket, bottle shop, deli, bakery, pharmacy, medical centre, allied health services, gym and a range of restaurant and food offerings,” he said.
"The Shopping Centre expansion will serve the week-to-week shopping and service needs of the growing Flagstone population.”
The proposal includes a 420 bay carpark, which would wrap around the existing childcare centre on Bushman Drive.
