Scarlette, a two-year-old Staffordshire bull terrior cross, was rescued from a pound about six weeks ago before giving birth to 12 puppies, two of which died.
Paquita Walburn of Furkids, which was founded in Jimboomba, said Scarlette and her puppies were a typical example of what could happen when irresponsible owners did not de-sex their dogs.
She said it was disgusting and disappointing that Furkids had to clean up after these people, who could easily prevent their animals breeding.
"De-sexing is something very simple and easy to have done and it is so important. If people de-sexed their animals we wouldn't need to be a rescue," Ms Walburn said.
"Some dogs may only have one or two dogs per litter but generally bigger dogs tend to have larger litters, and those puppies can never all be rehomed.
"They might be given away for free but a couple always end up getting dumped or given to a rescue."
The cost of Scarlette's caesarian and de-sexing, the de-sexing of the 10 puppies, as well as vaccinations, worming and food is costing Furkids more than $6000.
Ms Walburn said Furkids desperately needed funds and foster carers to continue rescuing dogs and pay for mounting vet bills.
"It's a never-ending cycle so we really need support to keep going," she said.
Scarlette is also now looking for her forever home, Ms Walburn said, along with five other large breed dogs at the rescue.
"Scarlette is very friendly and playful, loves water and, given some obedience training to learn not to jump, she would make a great family dog," she said.
"The puppies will also be looking for homes around the end of March."
