THE Jimboomba Times offered each candidate for the seat of Logan the chance to say in 100 words or less why voters should choose them at Saturday’s election.
Six candidates are contesting the seat, with five responding to the Times’ offer. David Pellowe of Family First did not respond.
Here is what the candidates had to say:
Kim Southwood: Greens
MY electorate expects already escalating costs of essential public services to sky-rocket with the LNP’s policy to sell further public assets.
They see jobs cut to provide a service that suits the corporation, not the customer.
The Queensland Greens Party policy offers an innovative, secure and sustainable future.
Our raft of policies encourages new industries with full time, permanent employment based on green energy and solutions which also protect Queensland’s natural resources, farmlands and the planet.
We promise a supportive transition delivering an equitable distribution of wealth and injecting new life into small business.
Please see our policies on http://qld.greens.org.au/policies/qld
Peter Ervik: Independent
I WILL work on making HODS (hydrogen on demand system) made legal in Queensland.
Shutting down factories and putting your head in the sand is not the way to go.
Hydrogen is made from water and is free and clean.
The US Navy is working on running all their ships on it, made from sea water.
The rest of the world is using HODS, so why should Australians be denied this blessing?
Logan can become the epicentre of HODS in Australia.
And I will implement the Bradfield Scheme Solar solution to give prosperity to inland Queensland and South Australia.
Michael Pucci: LNP
BY working with the Logan community we have achieved so much since 2012.
Over the next three years, our strong government will continue to make our community safer and healthier.
Since being elected, waiting lists have been slashed and the Logan Hospital has more doctors and nurses.
We now have a safer community thanks to 160 more police on the beat in Logan district.
We will deliver a Police Rapid Action Hub locally along with another school-based police officer for Logan’s schools.
After many years of neglect, Logan has enjoyed three years of building a stronger community. Let's continue our hard work together.
Linus Power: ALP
WE need a member of parliament that stands up for us to fight against Campbell Newman’s cuts to frontline services, not an LNP Member that won’t stand up for locals.
Local cuts in our area include nurses cut in our local health service, cuts to midwifery services and cuts to bus routes.
I will stand up to Campbell Newman’s plan to sell off our assets, which we know means higher electricity prices.
The only way to send Mr Newman a message is to vote Labor on Saturday.
Daniel Murphy: Independent
THE LNP should be judged on their record.
Sue Alan Jones (radio host) for sharing his own views on Campbell Newman, but then take massive unsupported swipe at others.
Have three years notice, call an election, but not have a complete field of candidates, a week into the election.
There is no reason for the good people of Logan to pay any more money to an LNP member for more of this “representation’’.
There is no indication these people can, or are even interested in, running a school, hospital or road network well, never mind the economy.
