IMPROVING their rugby league skills and brushing up on their reading was all in a day's work for Jimboomba school children when the Gold Coast Titans came to visit.
On Thursday, the students from years 2 and 7 took part in the NRL Bluey and Red's Early Years program which introduces youngsters to rugby league.
As part of the program, the students were read to from a book called 1,2,3 Rugby League by players, which introduces cattledogs Bluey and Red and other farm animals.
When they finished with the reading side, the children took to the field to play Bluey and Red's game and learned how to score a try, play and pass the ball.
Ryan Murley, 12, who is a rugby league player, said he enjoyed the opportunity to improve his skills under the guidance of under 20s Titans player Anthony Colman.
NRL development officer Kathryn Jones said the aim of the program was to introduce Rugby League to school children through story based learning.
Another session will be held at the school on September 4 where the students will each be given a ball to take home.
Ebony Clelland, 6, said she liked when they got to run with the ball because she put socks with bells on them especially for the day and they jingled when she ran.
