A Hills Early Learning Centre teacher has been named as a state winner in the Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards.
Karren Wessing has taken her title in the educator of the year category.
Ms Wessing is one of four state winners who now go on to represent Queensland at the national judging interviews in Sydney.
The national winner in each category will be announced at a gala event on 16 June.
Winners will share in more than $50,000 in training and professional development grants.
The Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards celebrate the dedication, tireless work and passion of the outstanding leaders and services within the sector.
Judging chairman and Australian Family managing director Paul Clancy congratulated this years state winners and wished them the best of luck at the national event stage.
“I also applaud each of this year’s nominees and finalists for all that you do to assist and nurture the growth of young Australians,” he said.
Sue Taylor – C&K Flagstone
C&K Flagstone director Sue Taylor has been nominated in the C&K Excellence and Innovation Awards.
She is up against competitors from two other Queensland centres in the Excellence and Innovation in Pedagogy and Practice Award.
Her award nomination recognises the work of an educator or group of educators who consistently provide high standards of education and care and innovative work practices to achieve positive outcomes for children, families and communities.
The winner of this award is said to demonstrate sound relationships and a consistent approach in both pedagogy and practice.
The C&K awards address innovative and exceptional practice across education and service management.
They form part of the Queensland Early Education and Care Conference which is held in Brisbane on June 17.
Bella Heymann – Jimboomba State School
Prep teacher Bella Heymann has been nominated in the OfficeMax A Day Made Better program.
The program recognises teachers from across Australia who work hard to educate, motivate and inspire students every day.
Last year 39,000 nominations were placed in this competition and this year that number is set to sky rocket.

Ms Heymann has been nominated by more than 45 students both past and present as well as by parents and colleagues.
There will be ten winners selected at a judging process in July.
The winners will receive $6000 worth of prizes for their school and an Apple iPad.
