Mr Wookey was one of ten teachers across Australia to be recognised by the OfficeMax program, in which 39,000 nominations were received.
He was nominated by students, colleagues, family, friends and parents for going the extra mile and positively influencing the lives of students through sport and engagement.
In a surprise ceremony, Mr Wookey was shocked by his win, taking to the stage with hesitation.
“You do what you do to benefit these kids, not for the pat on the back,” he said.
“But it was very nice to hear all that great feedback about my teaching.”
Mr Wookey received a host of prizes worth more than $5000 for the school, including office products and an Apple iPad for the classroom.
“It’s always terrific to have more resources for the students and plenty of great teachers will get use out of them,” he said.
Principal Kevin Lynch said the award was very deserved by Mr Wookey, as he regularly went above and beyond his duties.
“He has raised a number of sports initiatives to give our students more opportunities,” he said.
OfficeMax Marketing Director Paul Munkley said it was an honour to reward and celebrate Mr Wookey’s commitment to the classroom.
